ASA-CW Directs Full Federal Funding for Kansas Citys Levees! On January 17, 2019, the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works (ASA-CW), RD James, directed the US Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) to address the Kansas Citys Levees as a single on-going construction project to be fully federally funded.,
Through collaboration between KCIC, MOARC, USACE, KCMO, UG of KCK and City, State, and Federal representatives and agencies, the $453MM Kansas City Levees Improvement project has been fully-funded at the federal level WITHOUT the requirement for a 35% local match. This is the result of over a decade of work from many people involved in participating in regular trips to Washington, D.C., countless meetings with Congressional and Federal agencies, and many letters/calls in support of this initiative. Federal funding of a project like this without the necessity for a local match is nearly unprecedented.
The Kansas Citys Levees project was envisioned and developed as a system improvement of the nearly 60-miles of seven levees providing protection to over $20 billion in investments, 94,000 workers, and 20,000 residents.
KCIC Advocacy
KCIC sends a delegation to Washington, D.C. twice each year to lobby for funding on behalf of crucial projects for our industrial areas. To date, KCIC has helped to secure more than $1.18 billion in funds for waterway and levee projects in our industrial areas. A complete list of projects we lobby for can be found HERE. Our next trip to D.C. will be March 3-5, 2019. For more information on this trip or our fall trip, contact Boyd Nolen, KCIC President.
